Breaking News |  | Wednesday, September 28th, 2022: Rutledge Out 1-2 Weeks with Injury The Padres received bad news this morning. Josh Rutledge will miss 1-2 weeks due to back spasms. In the San Diego-New York game he sustained the injury while colliding with a player at a base. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," Rutledge sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."
In his 2022 season totals, Rutledge has 27 home runs, .380 BA, .465 OBP, 117 RBIs and 118 runs scored. |  | Monday, September 19th, 2022: Span Punishes AL Pitchers This Week Pitchers who faced the San Diego Padres last week were happy to see Denard Span in the rear view mirror. The 34-year-old left fielder was dubbed the American Player of the Week for a 6-game tear that saw him hit at a .500 clip.
For the week He also chalked up 10 hits in 20 at-bats, no home runs, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
Span is presently batting .322 with no home runs, 108 runs scored and 78 RBIs. His OBP is .420. |  | Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022: Rutledge Slams 5 Hits for San Diego Josh Rutledge was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Padres to a 17-6 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the San Diego second baseman said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Rutledge finished the day with 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a line in the record book.
J. Rutledge singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a GRAND SLAM off C. Espinoza in the 8th.
