Breaking News | | Friday, September 30th, 2022: Drury on Rampage Against Mets! It was a big day with the bat for Brandon Drury of the Anaheim Angels at Edison International Field as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat New York 14-13.
To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 6 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Drury had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Angels had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
B. Drury hit a solo-shot off K. Kendrick in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, doubled in the 9th and doubled in the 11th.
Thus far in 2022 Drury has hit .344 with 19 home runs, 90 RBIs and scored 123 runs. | | Tuesday, September 20th, 2022: Graham KO'd by Major Injury The New York Mets were jolted by some terrible news -- Glen Graham's baseball career was pronounced over -- the result of a torn ankle ligaments.
The club's GM told SION reporters, "We were all stunned by the news. Injuries are a part of the game, but you never get used to this kind of devastating news."
This season Graham is swinging the bat at a .259 pace. He has hit 1 home run and scored 19 times, while driving in 17. His on-base percentage is .406 and he has played in 66 games. | | Sunday, September 18th, 2022: It's Official: Field Will Retire It's a somber day for Mets fans as Darryl Field announced that he will retire at the end of the 2022 season. The New York reliever attributed his retirement to his age and loss of skills.
"I'm not the type of player I want to be anymore," he said. "It's harder go out there and be competitive. I'm not at the end of my rope yet, but I've seen guys hang around too long. I'm not going to be one of them."
Over his career Field has put up a 5.07 ERA and fanned 908 hitters in 1297 innings. His record stands at 88-67 with 54 saves. | | Injuries | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | 1B Kenny Milton | back spasms | 2 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | LF Glen Graham | torn ankle ligaments | Career Over! | Not on DL | | Team Information | Record overall | 74-88, .457 PCT | Position in Division | 5th, 19.0 GB | Record at home | 42-39, .519 PCT | Record on the road | 32-49, .395 PCT | Record in X-inning games | 4-8, .333 PCT | Record in one-run games | 23-35, .397 PCT | Record versus LHP | 20-20, .500 PCT | Record versus RHP | 54-68, .443 PCT | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | Record in April | 11-15, .423 PCT | Record in May | 12-15, .444 PCT | Record in June | 8-19, .296 PCT | Record in July | 14-11, .560 PCT | Record in August | 15-13, .536 PCT | Record in September | 13-14, .481 PCT | Record in October | 1-1, .500 PCT |
